DIY Aromatherapy Candles

Did you know that DIY Aromatherapy Candles are easy to make and are an inexpensive gift? I love candles! They really change the mood. The flicker of light and scent wafting through the air can be really calming. Making your own candles can be inexpensive, easy, and you can feel good about what is going in them. It’s not filed with synthetic fragrances or harmful chemicals. DIY candles also make a great DIY gift. Actually, the one I made is for my mom for Christmas!

Choosing the right essential oils for your candles:

Aromatherapy is a great way to help with your physical, emotional and mental health. Here are a few of our favorite aromatherapy scents and how they effect your mood:

Some scents that help to relieve anger include: Jasmine, Rose, Chamomile, Ylang-ylang.

Does knowing more about what essential oils help with which moods have you excited to try your hand at making your own aromatherapy candles? There are so many ways to make great candles, but I like to make it simple. Beeswax from a local farmer, essential oils, and a cotton wick. That’s it.

DIY Aromatherapy candles

Supplies/Ingredients

  • Cotton wicks (Like these)
  • Clean can to melt oils
  • Wooden spoon or stick to stir
  • Pot

Make It

  • Create a double boiler by placing water into a pot and bring to a boil.
  • Place beeswax intro can and place into water until it melts.
  • While your waiting cut wicks to fit clean mason jars, tins, glass votives and tape around pencil.
  • When wax is melted take out of water and stir in essential oils. The amount of essential oil you use depends on the scent strength of the oil, if your mixing them, and the amount of wax you use. I like to mix in the essential oil until I can smell it and then add a few more drops.
  • Pour into prepared containers.
  • Allow to cool.

That’s it. It is a really easy craft! Many people are afraid to try crafts because they are not “crafty.” Well friends, this craft doesn’t take much skill and anyone can do it. I promise!

  1. Hello, I met you yesterday in the mall, and all I have to say is that I’m super excited to figure out what I want to make first! I had a question about this post though. I’ve been dabbling in candle making lately, and am using leftover baby food jars to make candles for my schools secret Santa shop for kids who need help financially buying Christmas gifts. I’m trying to find a way to scent the candles that are clean without spending an arm and a leg. Let’s face it, teachers aren’t rolling in dough! I tried using just cinnamon last time and it all sank to the bottom when cooling. Could.i infuse oil (I saw a different post of you doing this) and use that to scent the candles?

    1. Hi Dacia! Yes, I remember chatting about candle making. Fun! Essential oils are the best way to naturally scent your candles. There are lots of companies out there. Two of my favorites are Mountain Rose Herbs and Plant Therapy. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

  2. How long does it take for the candles to cool/set? Wanting to do this as a craft in a monthly club but only have a couple hours and would want them to be set before people had to leave…thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Mariah. So sorry for my delayed response. These will set up in much, much less than two hours. I’d start with this activity first and then as your club continues they will set up and be ready as they walk out the door. If you gave them a try, I’d love to hear how it went!
