‘Fix Pretty Much Anything’ Salve – A Healing DIY Salve

Hello friends! Today I am sharing a crafty concoction that is utilized quite frequently in our home and will likely be a nice addition to yours, too. Today I bring you an easy to create, very powerful 'fix pretty much anything' salve. "Dramatic much?" Maybe, but, really... it's true.

You know how *real* food foodies kind-of laugh about saying, "Ah, just rub some coconut oil on it!" because coconut oil is like... well, pretty amazing stuff? Yeah. This salve is like that.

This salve is always go-to in our home. You will use this DIY salve to help with a plethora of 'problems' that creep up in your home. Seriously, just check out how incredibly versatile this healing salve really is...

  • Rough elbows
  • Dry feet
  • Eczema patches
  • Psoriasis
  • Cuts
  • Scrapes
  • Burns
  • Poison ivy
  • Bug bites
  • Sore muscles
  • Bug repellant
  • Antibacterial needs

Yes, ALL of that,  for real!

Below I briefly explain the ingredients so you can get a better grasp on just how incredibly healing and nourishing this DIY salve really is for your body and skin.

Key Oil Players

This oil is an extremely emollient substance, meaning that it easily makes skin very pliable, supple, and very hydrated.

Have oily skin? No worries, almond oil will work wonders for you, too. This oil is readily recognized by your skin as a “helper” and will help your skin maintain proper PH levels.

Key Essential Oil Players

I absolutely LOVE lavender essential oil. What can't it do!? ...and, of course, lavender essential oil smells so beautiful. The following is from MRH (learn even more HERE)... Properties: Analgesic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aromatic, carminative, cholagogue, deodorant, diuretic, emmenagogue, insecticide, nervine, sedative, stimulant, stomachic, vulnerary. Benefits: Bruises, burns, dandruff, earache, flatulence, halitosis, headache, indigestion, infection, inflammations, insect bites and stings, insomnia, nausea, nervous tension, rashes, scars, slow digestion, sore muscles, sprains, stress, sunburn, toothache, ulcers, wound.

DIY Fix Pretty Much Anything Salve

Supplies/Ingredients

  • Double Boiler - *Only needed if using beeswax. I make my own with a glass bowl over a pot of shallow, simmering H2O
  • Kitchen scale - like THIS; BTW, having a scale is a great investment in your kitchen and I use mine daily)
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Container(s) - Glass jar or bottle (Find containers in the Pronounce Skincare Herbal Boutique)

Make It Without Beeswax

  • Measure everything into a bowl
  • Pour into a suitable container
  • Shake, shake, shake
  • Hooray...ready to use
  • Store somewhere dry and cool; shake before each use

Make It With Beeswax

Fix Anything Salve Solid With Ingredients Setting Up - Pronounce Skincare & Herbal Boutique

  • Measure everything (EXCEPT EOs) into the upper part of your double-boiler (for me, this is a glass bowl)
  • Melt on low heat over bottom part of double-boiler (for me, a pot with shallow water) until everything is melted (the beeswax will be the last thing to melt)
  • Turn off heat and allow to cool for a couple of minutes
  • Add EOs; whisk to fully combine
  • Pour into container and place somewhere safe so it can set up (which actually doesn’t take very long); stop by and stir occasionally
  • Hooray...ready to use
  • Store somewhere dry and cool

*Please purchase organic, sustainably- & ethically-sourced essential oils. I purchase many of my EOs HERE.
*You can find certified organic carrier oils, butters, wax, herbs, and much more in the Pronounce Skincare Herbal Boutique.

    1. Hi Nita! You can substitute in any other liquid carrier oil that you have, although I really love how the neem acts in this recipe. You can grab a small amount of neem in my herbal boutique, if that helps. But yes, you can leave it out and just use another liquid carrier oil. 🙂

    1. Hi Meg. I know some people use candelilla wax as a substitute. I haven’t personally worked with it, so I cannot speak to the ratios you should use. I have heard it is more hard than beeswax, but cannot say for sure. If you give it a go, please come back and let us know how it worked. Happy DIYing for you!

    1. Hi Stasia! Yes, that sounds like a quality tamanu oil. You do want very dark green and solidifying at colder temps can be expected. Happy DIYing!

  1. Hi. I’m new to making amazing DIY remedies. I know this is probably a dumb question but when measuring out the beeswax, do I measure it when it’s melted or when it’s sill hard. TIA.

    1. Hi Nichole! You can substitute any liquid carrier oil for the tamanu. I will say that the tamanu is very healing and a key piece of the recipe and I do sell small amounts of tamanu oil in my Herbal Boutique. You can learn more about carrier oils here and see which one you might like to substitute. Happy DIYing!

    1. Hi Nichole! Yes, it will. You might want to shave your beeswax with a cheese grater to help it melt more quickly, but yes…it will work just fine. Happy DIYing!

  2. Hi there, this looks like a fantastic salve! I was wondering if the beeswax version hardens enough to be put into a deodorant-type container?

  3. In your recipe you use all those oils to make a batch? Or do you use one oil and one fragrance (essential oil) per batch? Thank you.

    1. Hi Jane. Yes, I use all of the oils listed in the recipe in one batch in the amounts listed (oz and drops for EOs). Happy DIYing!

    1. Hi Amelia! Jess says she used this Salve on her kiddo when he was little. If you have any concerns, we recommend you check with your doctor before use. Depending on if you use beeswax or not, you should yield about 12 to 15 oz. Hope this helps you! 😊

    1. Hi Heather! What a wonderful Christmas gift 😊 It looks like the liquid version makes roughly 12 oz and the beeswax version makes about 15 oz.

    1. Hi Pamela…Great question! Any liquid carrier oil would work as a substitution. You could use jojoba, apricot, avocado…you can learn more about carrier oils in THIS post.
