Hey, why not!??

Donuts are fun…especially mini-donuts.

Don’t have a mini-donut pan!??

Oh my, you are reeeealllly missing out. Please, pick one up. They are quite affordable and you can make some super creations in them. You can (and really, really should) get a mini-donut pan HERE. They are so versatile! Replace mini-muffin pans with these for super fun snacks, breakfasts, and meals.

I thought of this idea while trying to get my toddler to eat more green veggies. I mean, who doesn’t like mini-donuts!? They are so cute, being all little bitty and whatnot. So, why not make them savory and add some green veggies in them for my little fellow? I had no reason not to, so that’s what I did here. I hope you enjoy.

Adorable, right!?

Adorable, right!?

Broccoli, Cheese, & Bacon Donuts

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C broccoli, finely chopped (I used frozen organic broccoli and chopped it in my food processor)
  • 3 strips cooked pastured bacon, finely chopped
  • 1/4 C finely shredded cheese (I used a raw goat milk mild cheddar cheese, but use what you like)
  • 1/8 t garlic salt (like THIS)
  • 1/8 t onion powder (like THIS)
  • 1 pastured egg
  • Optional- I added a dash of organic kelp granules and white pepper; obviously, just add in whatever spices you like

Make Them

  • You’ll need one mini-donut pan like THIS. I use mine all of the time. I’ve found that my toddler enjoys having small, fun mini-donuts (…and so do I).
  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Mix everything together in a stand mixer, with a hand mixer, or using some elbow grease with a spoon in a bowl.
  • Scoop the mixture into your mini-donut pan. You’ll see in the pictures that I add in more filling than my pan suggests, making them slightly less “donut-like” in shape, but it just means more donut for me and the little toddler, so I’m okay with that.
  • Bake at 350 for 13-15 minutes (until a toothpick comes out clean).
  • Let cool on a cooking rack for a few minutes, then devour. My toddler likes them in organic, healthy ketchup (…me, too).

Ta-Da! You now have fun, savory, healthy mini-donuts.

    1. Hi Meggs,

Oh yes, they will work well in a muffin pan, too. I just really love the mini-donut pan (they are so fun)! 😉

And yes, they also freeze very well. I make them in big batches and they reheat well.

Great questions. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  1. How cute are these?!? I will be making these for our ladies Bible study. How many little “donuts” does this recipe yield? Because I don’t have a mini donut pan, I’ll be using my mini muffin pan instead. I’m assuming it should come out to be about the same size?? Thanks for the recipe!

    1. Thanks, Kory!

Yes, you would be able to fill the mini muffin pan with the same amount. I get 12 mini donuts, I think that is the same as a mini muffin pan, right?

Let me know how you and the ladies like them! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

      1. Just wanted you to know that these were a major HIT with the ladies yesterday!! I received several compliments from the group. Thanks again for sharing this, Jess!!

  2. I really want to make these for my kids, but I don’t have a mini donut pan, do you think I could bake them in a regular muffin tin? Thanks! 🙂

    1. Hi Sara,

Oh yes, these are still lovely in a muffin pan (we just like the novelty of the ‘mini-donut’). 😉

If you are using a full-sized muffin pan, you’ll probably only have enough ‘batter’ for half (I’m guessing). Let me know if you make them in a regular-sized muffin pan. I’ve had someone make them in mini-muffin pans (see below) and they turned out lovely. Keep me posted!

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Hi there,

Hmmm, honestly…I’m not much of a carb-counter, so I have no idea. I bet there is some type of free online tool that would help you count the carbs, though…by entering the ingredients. You may find help with a quick Google search.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck. 🙂

  3. Super excited that I dropped by for this recipe! Organic, pastured, oh boy I am very excited to try these. This recipe is totally inline with my eating strategy! Thanks and will share! Best Regards, Wendy

    1. Hooray! Thanks for stopping by, Wendy.

I actually just went over and checked out your blog. We DO have a lot in common! I ‘liked’ some of your social media outlets.

      I’m glad you stopped by!

  4. I can’t lie, when I was browsing through all the links we just posted on Sits I thought, eww gross….(but I can’t not click on this) hahahaha. These looks sooooo good, and I have to try out some versions myself. These look so quick for me when I’m on my way to work or need some fuel before a workout.

    1. Bwahahaha!!!

Hilarious! 😉 Yes, I know that they do sound a bit…off…yucky, perhaps!? I am glad you stopped by to take a look and actually see what they are.

      Thanks for stopping by,
      Jess 🙂

  5. When you posted this in the SITS Group, I had to come see it. Not because I thought “gross” because I was like Alice in Wonderland- Curiouser and Curiouser. Haha. I like off the wall, not quite normal mashups so, of course, I need to try this! Very creative!

    1. Bwahaha! Well, I’m glad that you approve. I just ran over to your blog. #1 I’m A HUGE Tori Amos fan! #2 I read several wonderful stories about your daughter. I can tell that you are a wonderful mother. I read your story about forgiveness…you are also a wonderful person. <3 Nice to 'meet, you.

Hope you enjoy the interesting donuts! 😉

      Jess
